Iraq War Memorial

March 19, 2011
CODEPINK Long Island
Setauket, NY
The CODEPINK LI MEMORIAL RIBBONS, each one inscribed with the name and age of a US Soldier killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, wound among the trees, and chattered in the wind as we rallied, heard speakers and read the names of the LI dead.

Rosalie Yelen, a Huntington Station resident and codepinker, told the crowd that more than 4,400 American troops have died in Iraq.

“Tens of thousands have returned home maimed, blinded, scarred and suffering from traumatic brain injury,” Rosalie said. “War and occupation can never bring democracy.”

CODEPINK LI, with the help of the women of PAX CHRISTI LI, have kept the memorial ribbons up to date; a heart-wrenching task, done with love and respect.
