Bush Ordered Torture

March 16, 2011

Phoenix, AZ

About 75 people gathered outside of the Phoenix Convention Center in downtown Phoenix, AZ to protest the appearance of George Bush before invited guests of AZ. Southwestern University.

The group's press release invited George Bush. To paraphrase: they thought he brought Christian values to the White House. Obviously, that is not something anybody could agree to be true that knows George Bush started an illegal war against Iraq and ordered torture.

Signs held by demonstrators included: "Torture is not a Christian value" Who would Jesus Torture?" and the "Worst President Ever." A press conference was held outside the Convention Center of local religious leader who said that they disagreed with the Christian values held by George Bush and reiterated many of the charges against Bush breaking international law and moral law.

Many of the guests went by the demonstration, some said nothing, one woman held up her recently purchased Bush biography. The event ended in a candlelight vigil with the reading of all the AZ. soldiers' names- those who were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan to remember their sacrifice in an unnecessary and illegal war.

The event was sponsored by End the War Coalition of which CODEPINK Phoenix is a member organization.
