Action to support the pro-democracy movement in Egypt in Portland drew a diverse community and range of ages, around thirty in all. Fun to learn some Arabic from members of Portland's large immigrant community, embarrassing to see one of our Arabic signs (the green one) is upside down in the snowbank. This event was built by participation of Peace Action Maine Youth Network, a newly formed group that hosted a talk the night before on the history of activism in the area. You can see the news anchor from Channel 6 t.v. coverage of our rally refer to the charge that CODEPINK caused the uprising of Egypt's people, and that we deny this. Also on camera we manage to make the connection to how continued U.S. tax $$ aid to Mubarak supports dictatorship, not democracy.
