Code Pink, IVAW, Operation Awareness POTUS 080910

On August 9th, Code Pink Women for Peace, joined by members of the Dallas area peace and justice community, were on hand to "greet" President Obama as he briefly slipped into Dallas for a high-dollar fundraiser at a private home.

After the motorcade passed by, we had a rally and heard from two Afghanistan veterans from Operation Awareness who are biking around the country on "A Ride Till the End" (of the wars/occupations) talking about their experiences with war and urging people to help create peace by doing their part to reduce dependency on foreign oil through use of other means of transportation, such as cycling.

A few bystanders - who had come just to see a presidential motorcade - loved the messaging on our signs and banners and decided to join us as we hightailed it over to the site of the fundraiser, where we again rallied and chanted as the media filmed and did interviews. To our delight, several neighbors who were there with signs asking for an end to war joined us, and we exchanged contact information, gave them our websites, and invited them to join us at future events.
