PRESIDENT OBAMA: CLOSE GUANTANAMO PRISON

President Obama,

Seven years ago, you said on national television that you were going to close Guantanamo. Seven years later, the world is still waiting. Over its history since the first prisoners arrived on January 11, 2002, Guantanamo has imprisoned 779 detainees, most of whom were held without charge or trial. As of November 2015, 107 detainees remain imprisoned at Guantanamo. The prison camp is not only an outrageous violation of the rights of the hundreds who have been held there, it is a blight on the history of the United States.

We, the undersigned, call on President Obama to visit Guantanamo Bay and use his executive powers to close the prison (and return the navy base to the people of Cuba!).

Sincerely,

I’m hoping that the President needs to do something that he needs to close Guantanamo Bay at all costs & let the last detainees get out of that prison. The war on terror is made it a lot worse to create safe terrorist havens & makes it a lot easier to have attacks in the mainland. I hope that the President should be true to his word in closing the Guantanamo Prison before the term is out & that they return the base to Cuban hands so that the terrorist stop making it easier to start attacks.

Guantanamo is Cuban territory. It belongs to Cuba.

Shut down Gitmo but leave it as a living memorial like Dachau in Germany. When I visited Dachau in 1991 (second time with my son), German teachers were taking their students through the memorial. The German slogan is “Never Again!” We need to come to grips with our crime just as the Germans have. President Obama, shove this atrocity down the throats of the Republicans. I have also been to My Lai, Vietnam (2004).
