This was always happening; the Obama Administration expanded the structures of mass detention & deportations. Migrant communities remain under extreme attack by the Trump Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, Customs & Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, and some bodies of local law enforcement. We are moved that people are becoming more engaged after years of these human rights violations being in the shadows.
We are committed to a just transition from a war economy to a peace economy by growing our local peace economies. This includes participating in the sanctuary movement and being available for rapid responses to threats/arrests/raids by local police and ICE (Immigrations & Customs Enforcement).

- Print & post these posters in your community to open dialogue and build community! Support and ideas available on the linked page.
- To be to be an accomplice in resisting unjust laws and support in the moment of need, you must know your rights and the rights of others. Visit this toolkit to get into the nitty-gritty.
- First, read and then Download and print Know Your Rights deportation defense cards from United We Dream. If you have further capacity, print dozens or hundreds of these cards and share them at locations where they are most needed and keep some with you to share with people you meet.
- Join or organize a Rapid Response Network in your neighborhood and city.
- Join with others to make your city, town, or neighborhood a Sanctuary zone.
- Connect with local grassroots migrant organizations and ask what support is needed. They might need help with running bond campaigns on crowdfunding websites, increasing attendance for observing people’s court hearings and upholding due process. They may need support in forming a Cop Watch/Border Patrol Watch/ICE Watch group to monitor activity and assert rights. Read about Berkeley Cop-Watch’s model.
- Become a Volunteer with CIVIC (Community Initiatives to Visit Immigrants in Confinement): CIVIC operates a hotline that helps connect people in immigrant detention to lawyers, loved ones, and allows them to report abuses.
