Mothers' Day Action in NYC 2017

Join us in New York City on Mother's Day, May 14th, to invoke the original spirit of mother's day- to say no to war & call for disarmament!

12:30pm - Meet with the Grannies at the Manhattan entrance of the Staten Island Ferry (see map) and stroll through Battery Park - alerting people of the cost of war

2 - 4pm - Gather at the Battery Park gardens (at the East Coast Memorial - just east of the Staten Island ferry terminal - see map) for a carnival to celebrate life, love and the creation mothers represent (not bombs and violence)

Expect fruit and flowers! We will be collecting cards to be sent to members of Congress with messages to stop investing in war and invest instead in life. There will be a board to write messages of peace to share with people! Join us in awareness and celebration, as we walk, dance, and sing for peace!

Rude Mechanical Orchestra to provide instrumental music and will ask the Raging Grannies for songs.

Instead of firing Tomahawk missiles into Syria and dropping the 'Mother of all Bombs' in Afghanistan, we need education, health care, good jobs, and humanitarian aid. So this Mother's Day we will join the Granny Peace Brigade to march for life and love and to say No to Trump's proposed $54 billion increase in military spending.

Join us to celebrate the nurturing essence of motherhood and take action to build a local peace economy. In the words of Julia Ward Howe who put out the first call for a Mother Day: "From the bosom of the devastated earth a voice goes up with our own. It says, 'Disarm, disarm!'"

WHO: Granny Peace Brigade, MADRE, Women March To Ban The Bomb (WMTBTB), Women International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), Rude Mechanical Orchestra, Missile Dick Chicks, CODEPINK, and more!
