It's clear that the killing of Osama bin Laden was an assassination; an extra-judicial "kill operation."
As the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, US Section pointed out, his killing was a missed opportunity to uphold and advance "the rule of law" over a "rule of force."
Yet, I can hear change coming. The country has woken up to the need to immediately end the occupation of Afghanistan. There is new, bi-partisan momentum in Congress to end the war and bring the troops home. The mainstream media may claim our Congressional supporters are 'unlikely to make headway,' but we know that the combination of people power and political will, the US will have to end the war in Afghanistan and bring all of the troops and contractors home.
We must use this moment as an opportunity to focus our efforts to end the wars. We must take up Julia Ward Howe's urgent Mother's Day Proclamation for Peace and say clearly, "Mr. President, Enough -- End This War."
Now is the time to be the change we want to see.
