Washington, DC –– The peace group CODEPINK will stage a protest at drone lobby’s cocktail happy hour on Monday, January 26th at 5:30pm. AUVSI (the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International) will be introducing their new President and CEO, Brian Wynne. AUVSI has been supporting the drone industry, including killer drones, and lobbying the Federal Aviation Administration to speed up the opening of US airspace to drones, which jeopardizes the privacy and safety of American citizens. Activists will have an 10-foot killer drone model, small flying drones, and there will be CODEPINK waitresses offering killer drone-themed cocktail options.
“AUVSI, with it’s new leadership, has a chance to work with activists to distinguish between good and bad uses of drones,” said CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin. “We hate to be a buzzkill, but its time for AUVSI to speak out against the use of this technology for illegal killing and spying.”
CODEPINK’s co-founder Medea Benjamin has researched extensively and written a book entitled Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control about the dangers of drones. She also recently interviewed and wrote an article about Kathy Kelly, a peace activist sentenced to three months in federal prison for protesting drone use on the Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri.
