Tomorrow: CODEPINK to Host Call-In Party to Congress in Support of Iran Deal at Busboys & Poets from 10am-5pm
When: Tuesday, August 25 at 10:00am - 5:00pm
Where: Busboys & Poets. 5th and K St (1025 5th St NW, Washington, District of Columbia 20001)
Washington, DC–– In support of the nuclear deal struck with Iran, on August 25 from 10am to 5pm the organizations CODEPINK, National Iranian American Council and Jewish Voice for Peace DC Chapter will host a “call-in” party urging Congress to support the Iran nuclear deal. There will be Iranian speakers and an expert on nuclear weapons talking about the deal while folks make calls to over 100 undecided representatives and snack on food compliments of Busboys and Poets.
The deadline for Congress to vote on the deal is September 17. CODEPINK and other activist groups are calling upon the public to put pressure on their elected officials to come out in favor of the deal before that time. Activists see this as the most important foreign policy vote since Congress voted to support the invasion of Iraq. "They were wrong then, with disastrous consequences," said Iraqi-born Busboys owner Andy Shallal. "Hopefully, they won't take us down the path to war this time." Shallal will be available for interviews during the call party.
"While organizations like the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and Christians United for Israel (CUFI) are trying to sabotage the nuclear deal with Iran by pouring millions of dollars into anti-diplomacy advertisements, we're calling Congress to defend diplomacy," said CODEPINK co-founder Medea Benjamin.
Visuals: The room will be decorated with banners/signs calling for diplomacy.
